Criminalize Christianity

There is a lot of bad logic in this world.

Some things are held as vicious, life-threatening, menaces while others are claimed to be necessary for the salvation of humankind. Some religions receive special privilege that is above the law and others are denounced as cults or even criminal groups. How much of the decision making process behind these labels do you think is political and how much is reasonable? I hesitate to even use the word reason…

Presumably we designate things illegal because of their potential harm to society. Drunk-driving causes accidents, chemicals can be used to make explosives, drugs influence addiction and crime, etc. We hold this standard in our society that when something is associated with a particularly harmful behavior or event then we should ban it. In fact, often we do not even consider whether there is a causal relationship; association is often all that is required. In the spirit of our culture’s logic and aim towards safety, I would like to present a case to cleanse our society of a common ill that may indeed lead to our destruction. May I present the Mindinclined case to Criminalize Christianity:

Compelling video.. Did you make that? I guess it does make you think.. But you have to keep in mind would society really be better off having the masses believe in nothing at all, and with christianity being one of the largest religions in the world to criminalize it would ultimatly create alot of criminals. I completly agree with you that whenever society deems something as harmful they criminalize it. Religion does cause alot of conflict in the world, but what would you have people believe in if not their religion?

Thanks for the comment Ryan. I did make the video and understand your concern. However, I do not think that criminalizing Christianity would make people believe in nothing. The real problem with Christianity, as with most religion, is its absolutist nature; where the ONLY way to salvation is through Jesus Christ. The result of this stubborn, conceded, and immature ideology is discrimination, violence, and hatred.

You can still have ideas, philosophy, and beliefs without having all of the institutionalized rules and scare tactics. I do think that people can believe whatever they want to believe - so long as those beliefs do not infringe on the freedoms of others. Christianity is a system that uses beliefs as a means of attaining power and influencing policy.

I am not advocating the burning of Christian material or the abolishment of Christian ideas. I simply believe that Christian INSTITUTIONS foster dangerous and destructive behavior. If an institution is causing that much damage to society, it should be criminalized.

another interesting thing is the causal relationship aspect…like saying 80% of prisoners are followers of Christianity…to me that does not seem like a logical argument for the criminalization of Christianity because it does not prove that the religion caused the criminal behavior. And then there is the fact that there is no proof that marijuana causes societal ills. Like you said, both are associated with damage to society, but one is criminalized while another is celebrated and given privilege in society. Interesting!
